Why it matters

A future built on belonging

Legacy gifts help ensure that affirming, community-centred supports remain available across Canada—especially in rural, Northern, and underserved communities where access can be limited.

Sustainable support

Stability that lasts

Planned gifts create long-term financial strength, helping protect programs during uncertain years and ensuring support remains available to 2SLGBTQ+ and allied youth.

Health & well-being

Affirmation saves lives

When youth have safe, affirming spaces, they build resilience, connection, and confidence. Your legacy can help keep those spaces open, accessible, and welcoming.

Generational impact

Values in action

A legacy gift is a statement: community matters, inclusion matters, and young people deserve to grow up surrounded by dignity and care.

What is legacy giving?

Legacy giving (also called planned giving) is a future donation arranged through your estate planning. Many people choose a gift that fits their circumstances—some are specific amounts, and others are a percentage of the residue of an estate.

These gifts are often arranged without affecting your current finances, and can be updated if your situation changes.
Common options

Legacy gifts in Canada

Here are common Canadian ways to include a charity in your plans. Your lawyer or advisor can confirm what is best for your personal circumstances.

In your will

Bequest (specific or residual)

A bequest can be a specific dollar amount, a particular asset, or a percentage of the residue of your estate after other obligations are met.

Registered plans

RRSP / RRIF / TFSA beneficiary

Naming the Foundation as a beneficiary can be a straightforward way to make a meaningful gift—often done by updating a designation form.

Insurance

Life insurance beneficiary

You can name the Foundation as a beneficiary of an existing policy, or take out a policy specifically to create a future charitable gift.

Sample will wording (for your lawyer)

Your lawyer or notary may find this sample wording helpful:

“I give to the Welcome Friend Foundation, a registered Canadian charity, the sum of $_____ OR _____% of the residue of my estate, to be used for its charitable purposes.”
Your advisor can tailor the language to match your wishes and province/territory requirements.
